Despite all odds (yes, the truck broke down again), we made it to Antigua to reunite with the King family (currently living in Belize) and the Lybberts (currently in Lake Chapala, Mexico), to celebrate Semana Santa.
We had a fabulous time. It was so incredible to see first hand the tradition of this culture. I felt so grateful to encounter it. Here's some of what we experienced:
First, the video
Then, the photos
Tired family travelers
Phew! Is that enough photos??

Wow, loved the video of the procession, and all of the pictures. The offering ‘carpets’ were amazing… reminds me a lot of the detail and beauty of the Rose Bowl parade floats, which are also so transient in their existence. I was glad that you were able to make it to Antigua despite your truck issues. Those pictures of Greg with the truck and on the bus are priceless! 😉 Happy belated Easter… He is Risen! Alleluia!
Thank you Natalie!
That is incredible… what a community effort it is to have all the floats, Roman soldiers, band to play and all the amazing street art!! What a wonderful experience…so glad I could share it through your blog!
Thanks! It was amazing.
It looks awesome!
It WAS pretty incredible!
We loved the video and all of the photos! Brought back memories when we were in Antigua last year. The flowered carpets were amazing. The costumes and pagentry were so nice to see. Thanks for sharing!

Wow! So many photos 🙂 It reminded me of Semana Santa I spent in Mexico last year 🙂
So nice to see you with our friends the kings and lybberts, cant wait to see you as well. Will you be coming down for semana santa? We will be here!
@TravelwitBender I definitely want to go to Antigua again for Semana Santa, but we’re going to have to see if we can find a place to stay… it’s usually pretty packed and pricey 🙂
