We often hear:
"I want to ___________ but I don't have the time/money/freedom/support."
"I wish I could travel like you do."
"I can't do _________ because of ____________."
Perhaps to you, a statement like this may be 'true'. You really would like to __________ (lose weight/travel/spend more time with family), but your circumstances prevent it.
The hard truth - These are all just excuses. Self-limiting beliefs.
Your reality - your 'real world' - it's not set in stone. It's negotiable. And you have the power to be the master negotiator.
[pullquote style="right"]The people who get on in this world are the people who get up in the morning and look for the circumstances they want, and if they can't find them, make them. - George Bernard Shaw[/pullquote]
Whatever you believe is possible for yourself, whatever you believe is possible to achieve (or not achieve), whatever you believe you deserve to be, do or have - this creates your reality. You create your reality, through your beliefs.
So where did these beliefs come from?
Your parents, peers, media. Your life will mirror your surroundings. Or as Jim Rohn puts it, you will be the average of the five people you spend the most time with.
As my husband always says, input determines output.
Think about what you believe is impossible to achieve in your life.
Then think about those you associate with most. Do they contribute to those beliefs?
Surround yourself with out-of-shape, unhappy homebodies, who won't pursue their dreams, and guess what you're likely to become?
Here's five ways to change your input and start negotiating a new reality:
[message type="warning"]Taking the following actions will lead to major discomfort and life-altering changes![/message]
1. Change your friends
If you're the average of the five people you spend the most time with, then you better be pretty particular about who they are if you want more for your life.
As harsh as it may sound, if you want something different in your life, than you may need to start here.
2. Change your job
Are you stuck in a ho-hum rut at work? Re-kindle that passion for work you love and want to do. It is out there. Find it. Become that Linchpin (if you don't know what I'm talking about, get the book and read it. You'll thank me.)
3. Change your location
Drastic? I think not. Moving to a new environment offers many mental benefits. New stimuli seems to wake up your brain, (plus it makes the previous two steps a lot easier).
And at your new locale, you get to become a 'new you.'
4. Change the channel
Or even better yet - turn it off. Direct TV's slogan is "Let's watch T.V.!"
How about let's not - and instead lets actually live life.
5. Change your input
Now that you're not spending so much time watching T.V., starting putting new ideas into your brain - new and inspiring blogs, books and audio programs.
You don't have to be the victim of circumstance. You don't have to live a life you discontented with.
Perhaps these actions are 'drastic', but you already know the cliché - if you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got.
Take charge today and negotiate your own reality!
