I've become a lot more interested in sustainable living since reading books like In Defense of Food; Animal, Vegetable, Miracle, and Fast Food Nation.

Also, I just ordered Omnivores Dilemma For Kids, and we've been watching videos like Fresh and Food Inc. (well, I'll watch that soon).

I'm becoming very passionate about supporting local farmers and growers, and supporting a system that will be able to support itself, instead of continuing to feed this industrialized food monster that is destroying itself (and us as a nation).

If you don't know what I'm talking about, then read some of the books mentioned and learn more. If you do have some awareness of the issue, increase it and buy local food!

We had the chance to help out some friends who run a natural meat farm in Utah.

Watch the video below of the kids catching chickens. All in a worldschooling day.

What do you know about sustainable farming?

“You know when you have chicken for dinner? That’s where it comes from.”
Classic! I could just see the wheels turning in her head. So cute!

“Ok I got em all over there, what are you gonna do now?” 0:45 I cracked up when Kaya said that.
What a great way to teach kids where there food comes from and the effect their food choices has on the environment.

Yep, definitely good lessons. Especially after watching Fresh and seeing where the industrialized chickens are kept 😛

Oh and thanks for the links to the books. I already have Animal, Vegetable, Miracle on my reading list but I’ve also added In Defense of Food now.

I haven’t watched Fresh will put that on my list. Forks Over Knives, Earthlings is really good. For books Disease Proof Your Child, and Eat to Live by Dr. Fuhrman is also very educational. My 2 year old son no longer has to take inhalers for his “asthma” and they (twins) don’t get sick anymore.
